Wednesday April 22nd

Morning all . . . :coffee:

63° already at this early part of the morning.

I used to catch all kinds of snakes and lizards when younger. It' amazes some to learn that rattle snakes can live at above 6,000 feet in elevation and the winters run in the minus tens and twenties. In fact there was a highway feature of a rock outcropping about ten miles north of town that Caltrans named rattle snake curve, because at some point they were doing some work on the rocks to mitigate rocks falling onto the highway and they uncovered a den of rattlers.

Morning. 59 degrees and 30 mph+ wind that is supposed to steadily increase up to 40 mph+.

Cool story about the rattlesnake den. Bet that got everybody's attention. Did they put up a sign that said Watch for Falling Rattlesnakes? I've seen rattlesnakes at 8300 feet on Casper Mountain. Hibernacula availability is more important than cold. The G&F herpetologist told me that though it seems like a place you'd find a jillion rattlers, rattlesnakes are uncommon in Red Desert because of limited places to hibernate.

Okay, okay. I'll hush up about snakes.
Mind the thorns.
