Morning everybody . . . :coffee:

27° maybe up to the mid 50's had some virga rain off to the North yesterday, SIL texted me to ask if it was rain or smoke.

How many train companies were there between Galveston and NE Texas back then. Did you know there were approximately 144 time zones in the U.S of A. prior to the transcontinental train? Then the four current time zones were created by the railroads.

Morning, y'all. 37 degrees, sunny, and a stiff wind blowing from the southwest, as usual. My favorite weather site, Weather Underground, has gone wonky on me the last couple of days. Despite listing the high for the day as 54, it shows the current temperature being 66. un-uh. Not even close.

Your mention of time zones stirs some vague memory in the back of my brain about the railroads sorting them out. Lots of vague meories tucked back there in the shadows only get called forth when someone else whistles to them. This map is from 1874, and there are already a lot of lines in Texas. By 1920, there were even more. In the 1960s, my grandmothers used to catch the train in Hope and ride clear down to Brownsville and Kingsville to see us.
