Friday November 21st

Post by Far Rider »

Morning all . . . :coffee:

25°

One of my trips out to Arkansas I stayed at a Motel in Flagstaff, I parked out front and it looked pretty empty until I got into the lobby and it was packed with French tourists, there were three tour busses out back, but they did have a room that wasn't already reserved.
Yes I always thought New Mexico had some areas that weren't so desert further North of I 40. One return trip I stopped at the Big Texan Steak house in Amarillo, early smart phone era and I checked what town was coming up in the next 100 or so miles and it was Tucumcari NM, I stayed at the Motel Safari, which in it's early day was a Holiday Inn, but every room was restored in Route 66 era furnishings. I found out not many people had heard of Tucumcari NM when I talked about spending the night there, I guess I thought most people had heard the song with it featured as one of the town of "I've been everywhere man . . . "

Morning. 34 degrees and still. Sunshine on my shoulders- or would be if I stepped outside.

I always liked Tucumcari, partially because it is such a good name. We stayed there a time or two. Lots of feedlots in the area back then. The waitress at the cafe told us when the mist from the river combined with the smell from the feedlots, the locals localled the result "Shist."

In the sixty years I've traveled regularly through Amarillo, I've never stopped at The Big Texan. I'm intimidated by company that includes people who can eat a five pound steak in one sitting. In fact, when I go that way now, I avoid Amarillo all together and take the loop through Boger.
Mind the thorns.

I had a friend once say "If I could pick one place in the USA where I could live the rest of my life, it would be Silver City NM."
I have never been there...yet.
